Hamlet- Prince of Denmark and the protagonist. Hamlet is the son of Queen Gertrude.
Queen Gertrude- The Queen of Denmark. Mother of Hamlet and marries Claudius.
The ghost- The specter of Hamlet's father who died. The ghost claims to have been murdered by Claudius.
Francisco- A soldier and guardsman at Elsinore.
Horatio- Hamlet's friend, studied with the prince at the University of Wittenberg and is loyal and helpful to Hamlet.
Marcellus & Bernardo- Officers who first see the ghost.
King Claudius- King of Denmark, Hamlet's uncle. Plays the antagonist.
Voltimand and Cornelius- Courtiers whom Claudius sends to Norway to persuade the king to prevent Fortinbras from attacking.
Laertes- Polonius and Ophelia's brother, spends much of the play in France.
Lord Polonius- Lord Chamberlain of Claudius court and the father of Laertes and Ophelia.
Ophelia- Polonius daughter, a beautiful young woman with whom Hamlet has been in love.
